The DigiSAt postdoctoral researcher, Asnath Paula Kambunga, completed her fieldwork in Cape Town, South Africa. Asnath spent three and a half months at RLabs, a living lab located in the Mitchell's Plain township on the outskirts of Cape Town, where she studied the everyday practices of tech entrepreneurs developing digital mobile solutions amidst the ongoing energy crisis. Her research was ethnographic and incorporated design workshops and design interventions involving local stakeholders with varied interests in the tech and energy futures.
Asnath has maintained a long-standing relationship with RLabs since 2012. She contributed to the establishment of RLabs in Namibia and has subsequently conducted research focusing on the use of technology by young people to address local challenges and co-designing technologies to amplify marginal voices.
